Overview:
Oregon's Death With
Dignity law went into effect during 1997. It allows some terminally-ill
patients to request assistance to commit suicide. This triggered plebiscites and
legislative bills in other states.
There have been many attempts to pass a PAS law in California. In spite of
high levels of public support for such a bill, -- on the order of 70% -- none have ever been signed into law.
