| "Pro-family" generally refers to a group that opposes equal rights for gays and lesbians, same-sex activity,
access to abortion, comprehensive sex education in the schools. physician assisted suicide, etc. |
The term is often defined more narrowly to refer to groups or policies or groups that promote all family types, including
nuclear families, extended families, single parent families and families headed by same-sex parents |

| "Disciplining" children means to use spanking
or other methods of painful, corporal punishment in order to correct their behavior. |
"Disciplining" children means to use various techniques to modify their behavior: reasoning with them, using time
outs, depriving them of privileges, other non-violent means, with perhaps spanking as a last resort. |
Conservative Christians feel that they are instructed by God via passages in the Bible to spank
their children. Social service workers are increasingly viewing this as physical abuse. |
