South Africa's Constitutional Court Dec. 4 authorized
President Nelson Mandela to sign into law the nation's new
constitution -- the only one in the world that bans
discrimination based on sexual orientation. Mandela signed it
Dec. 10.
The justices dismissed objections by two political parties
to the revised draft constitution adopted in October by the
National Assembly and Senate. The objections were not related to
the gay protections.
