The term "LGBTI" is an acronym for "Lesbian, Gay,
Bisexual,
Transgender/Transsexual, and Intersexual persons.

The color coding represents:

bullet Persecution:
bullet Pink/rose: 7 Muslim countries execute sexually-active homosexuals: Bahrain, Iran, Mauritania,  Saudi Arabia, Sudan, United Arab Emirates, and Yemen. Also, Nigeria executes homosexuals in the north parts of the country, and sentences them to long prison terms in excess of 10 years in the south.
bullet Blue: Imprisonment of no defined duration.
bullet Turquoise: Imprisonment for 1 month to 10 years.
bullet Purple: Imprisonment from 11 years to life.
 
bullet Protection:
bullet Yellow: Laws in place protecting against discrimination.
 
bullet Recognition:
bullet Red: Same-sex marriage in Belgium, Canada, the Netherlands, South Africa, Spain, and the District of Columbia and a few states in the United States.
bullet Orange: "Marriage-lite:" with most of the benefits of marriage.
bullet Lime Green: Recognition with few benefits.
 
bullet Other:
bullet Gray: No specific legislation to persecute, protect or recognize homosexuals.
