- 2010-JUN-27: World: OneNewsNow reported as dangerous website to visit: (Or as some Canadians refer to it: OneNewSnow). This is one of the most active news sources within conservative Christianity. It has an Alexa traffic rank almost identical to the rating of our website. One of their more interesting features is their polls of visitors. The makeup of the options that they present to their visitors precludes any liberal, non-fundamentalist response.
- When we tried to raise OneNewsNow.com using the Firefox browser, we received an alarm: " Reported Attack Page! This web page at onenewsnow.com has been reported as an attack page and has been blocked based on your security preferences. Attack pages try to install programs that steal private information, use your computer to attack others, or damage your system. Some attack pages intentionally distribute harmful software, but many are compromised without the knowledge or permission of their owners.
- When we did a Google search involving OneNewsNow.com them today, we received the following advisory from Google:
Warning - visiting this web site may harm your computer!
Suggestions:
- Return to the previous page and pick another result.
- Try another search to find what you're looking for.
Google's Safe Browsing diagnostic page for this site revealed that of the 490 pages that Google tested on the site over the past 90 days, 21 page(s)resulted in malicious software being downloaded and installed without user consent.
Unfortunately, The American Family Association (AFA) -- the sponsors of OneNewsNow -- do not seem to have an Email address to which one can send an inquiry. Nothing about this problem appears to be discussed on the AFA's website.
The danger appears to have been partly cleared up on the morning of 2010-JUN-28. Their home page was safe, but many (or all) of the site's links on their home page are still dangerous. Curiously, as of 7:00 AM, they had not placed a notice on their home page to warn visitors of the danger. Not everyone has malware detection programs in place on their computer and might wander beyond the home page into dangerous territory.
By the morning of JUN-29, all hazards appear to have been removed. We were still unable to find acknowledgment of the problem on their home page.
According to TalkReviews.com, OneNewsNow have already experienced a decline in the total number of unique monthly visitors from about 1.3 million in 2009-JUL to about 0.65 million in 2010-APR. If news of this problem spreads, they will undoubtedly lose even more visitors to their website.
- 2010-JUN-28: U.S. Supreme Court overturns Chicago gun law: The Court continued its tradition of frequent 5:4 decisions in a ruling over gun ownership. They determined that a long-standing law in Chicago, IL, unduly restricted the ownership of guns in violation of the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. This is the first time that the Court has ruled on a matter of state or municipal gun laws.
