2003-APR-12: Iraq: Muslims protect Jewish community: Hassam Kassam, 21, a Muslim in Baghdad, observed some looters who were trying to enter the Jewish community house. He cried out to the Jewish guard: "Hossam, bring the Kalashnikovs!" Kalashnikovs are a Russian made assault rifle. Neither person was armed at the time. However, the looters were scared away. Ibrahim Mohamad, 36, commented: "The Jews have always lived here, in this house, and it is only normal that we should protect them." |
