2005-MAR-18: Albania: Historic agreement signed: Albanian
religious leaders from the Albanian Islamic Community, Bektashi Community,
Orthodox Church, and Roman Catholic Church signed an historic "Statement of
Shared Moral Commitment" to promote religious tolerance and freedom. They
acknowledged their differences, affirmed their shared moral values and agreed to
work together to promote a vibrant and religiously free civil society. Prime
Minister H. E. Fatos Nano, was present at the signing. He said that "these
religious leaders are far more important (to Albania) than any political
officer." 10
