A Covenant of Beloved Community was developed by the Beloved
Community Team (Judith Chandler, Ann Folk, Ellen Johnson-Fay, Ed
Hocker, and Judy Offerdahl) of All Souls Unitarian Church of
Colorado Springs, CO. Although it was compiled for use within a single
Unitarian congregation, it may be found to be
equally applicable for an inter-faith group. In fact, a typical
Unitarian church is itself a multi-faith group of individuals
following Buddhist, Christian, Jewish, Neopagan and/or other
traditions. An excerpt from their Covenant's "Awareness of
self and others" section is: "People give time, love,
and energy in order to further the community. We extend ourselves and
build relationships with many different people, knowing that personal
relationships indicate a degree of vulnerability. We are a shelter of
many beliefs where minority and opposing views are accepted, even
cherished." 2
