Transgender persons and transsexuals.
2017: Why are some people transgender?
Beliefs of 12 Roman Catholic
cardinals & bishops (Cont'd),
and conservative Protestants.
Part 8 of nine parts.
Statements by 12 Roman Catholic cardinals and bishops condemning "Gender Theory Madness (Continued):"
The article in TFP Student Action included two additional Catholic leaders: 1
11: Most Rev. Andreas Laun, O.S.F.S., Auxiliary Bishop of Salzburg, Austria:
Gender ideology, which is so popular today in the so-called highly developed world, is not rational. The foundational thesis of this sick 'product of reason' is the end result of radical feminism, to which the homosexual lobby has attached itself. It is claimed that there are not only man and woman, but other 'genders.'
"[...] They want to force us all to believe in this fully absurd, new gender-fairy tale! But, is there really a 'self-chosen gender?' Experience points to a simple answer: NO!...
"[I]s gender theory demonic?...It is obvious, after seeing the many draconian laws in favor of the new gender ideology, ones that simply rape our God-made natures, ones that 'change the form' of people only show one thing: Their proposers want to be like God. They desire to 'create' new, self-made men. In the meantime, the Slovak, Polish, Croatian, Portuguese, and bishops from Italy and other lands have lifted their voices in protest. They are all united in their message: Gender ideology is a threat to civilization itself, especially the Church. The gender ideologues are a sort of spiritual 'Taliban' and they even have their own 'sleeper cells' ready to go into action at any time!...
"Yes, gender ideology is the destruction of man."
12: Major-Archbishop Sviatoslav Shevchuk, Patriarch of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church:
"Gender ideology, which denies the existence of objective human nature, the complementarity of man and woman, and the values of marriage, actually denies the existence of the Creator and negates the truth of humans in his image. In such ideologies, there is no place for God, and therefore there is no place for the person in their uniqueness and dignity, because human uniqueness is grounded in its connection with the Creator. The biblical doctrine of the person, created by God, emphasizes the greatness and dignity of its origin and calling—from God and eternal life with him in holiness (divinization), while, according to gender theory, the person has a base origin and lowly potential—from itself and for temporary life, with a goal of its own pleasure. Therefore, one can say with conviction that gender theory is destructive and anti-human."
In addition to the above twelve statements by Bishops and Cardinals, the TFP Student Action web site also has statements by the Polish Bishop's Conference, the Council of European Episcopal Conferences, and Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI. 1
Webmaster's comments on the statements by Roman Catholic hierarchy: [bias alert]:
As I described in our review of transgender topics in an earlier essay, transgender adults identify themselves as in terms of the two existing genders: as
- neither female nor male; gender has no meaning to them;
- intermediate between female and male -- having male and female aspects; or
- switching gender between female and male from time to time.
However, several of the statements by Roman Catholic hierarchy seem to state or imply that some in the transgender community have identified themselves as having belonging to some type of third gender. I cannot understand their position; it makes no sense to me.
Additional comments by conservative Protestant non-profit groups
Creation Ministries International's article about transgender persons:
This ministry's prime focus is the promotion of creationism over belief in the Theory of Evolution. However, they also discuss the Bible, God, theology, and social/ethical issues. In their essay named "gender-confusion," Dr. Don Batten responded to a letter from a Canadian visitor asking about kids "born male [and who] identify as being female." "Mr. M" had asked:
Is there a gene in the body from birth or a mental or psychological issue that would cause this? Is this a result of the curse of sin?? And is encouraging this also sinful?"
Dr. Batten responded, in part:
"Gender confusion identity crisis is a very complex issue. ... The early bad behavior, for which the boy was prescribed drugs, might not have been gender confusion but attention getting, and acting as a girl got the attention without the unpleasant conflict and so it was reinforced. ...
Our brains are also not above being messed up through mutational degradation, which is happening, and has been happening since the Fall (Genesis 3) and it is always possible something is wrong with the brain’s circuits.
However, overall, I think that this sort of gender confusion is more likely due to behavior reinforcement." 2
Dr. Batten's mention of "The Fall" is a reference to Genesis 3, the story of the Creation of the universe itself, the creation of Adam from mud, the creation of Eve from one of Adam's ribs, and the creation of the Garden of Eden. The Bible explains how the original couple was created by God without the knowledge of good and evil. That is, like all the animal species in the world, Eve and Adam had no moral sense. They committed a forbidden act by eating the fruit from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. That action caused them to develop a sense of right and wrong for the first time.
Many Christians believe in what is called "Original Sin:" that God punished Eve, Adam, their children, and all of their descendents down to the present day because of Eve and Adam's action about six to ten millennia ago. God did this even though Eve and Adam's actions in eating the fruit would have been driven by their instincts and not moderated by their understanding of morality. By almost all of today's systems of ethics, punishing people for an act over which they had no intellectual control is not allowed. Also the transfer of guilt and punishment from the guilty to innocent persons is called "scapegoating" and is currently considered immoral in most ethical systems. However, it is found in many locations in the Bible.

"... a boy dressed as a girl and promotes transgender confusion on a massive scale -- especially targeting children. ... [L]eftist media and way too many liberal professors are obsessed with spreading gender confusion, junk science and blatant falsehood. What they ultimately want to do is overthrow God's beautiful order -- to disfigure male and female as God created us.

One was an essay titled: "Answering Parents' Questions on Gender Confusion in Children," by Glen Stanton. He believes that transgender feelings among children is usually caused by problems within the family. He writes:
"Some of these boys will be obsessed with mermaids, frilly girl things and long hair. It is important for parents and extended family to look not just at the child, but the family system itself. Such behavior is typically a curious indicator of deeper problems within the family.
Dr. Kenneth Zucker, one of the world's leading authorities on gender confusion in children, calls this dynamic 'family noise' which he explains as unhealthy relationships between mother and father, parents and child, as well as sibling to sibling. He says allowing a boy to live as a girl might solve the immediate anxiety of such a child, but it would ignore the larger problem driving such desire, and it fails to serve the child and the family." 4
A "Women of Grace"® article on transgender persons:
Women of Grace is:
" ... a [Roman] Catholic apostolate whose mission is to transform the world one woman at a time by affirming women in their dignity and vocation as daughters of God and in their gift of authentic femininity."
In a commentary titled "Number of Gender-Confused Children on the Rise" Susan Brinkman said:
"... the UK is now reporting a 1000 percent increase in cases of 'gender confusion'. ... numerous studies [are] suggesting that feelings of gender confusion in young children are often temporary. ... Dr. Paul McHugh, the former psychiatrist in chief at the prestigious Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore tracked children experiencing gender confusion at Vanderbilt University and London’s Portman Clinic and found that 70 to 80 percent 'spontaneously lost those feelings” as they grew'. ... " Andrea Williams, chief executive of Christian Concern, says children experiencing gender confusion should be treated with respect -– but according to God’s design and sound science." 5
