An article donated by Alton C. Thompson:

Crucifixion worked in the past,
but is unnecessary now!

We have better ways to
suppress innovation.

The “crucifixion” refered to in my title was that of Jesus, believed to have occurred sometime between 30 and 33 CE.  That it “worked” follows from the fact that Christianity developed in the name of Jesus (thought of as the “Christ”):

Christianity is an Abrahamic monotheistic religion based on the life and teachings of Jesus of Nazareth.  Its adherents, known as Christians, believe that Jesus is the Christ, whose coming as the messiah was prophesied in the Hebrew Bible, called the Old Testament in Christianity, and chronicled in the New Testament.[1]

What I mean in saying that the crucifixion of Jesus “worked” is that the “religion” that developed in his name does not fit the one and only definition of “religion” given in the Bible—in the New Testament Epistle of James (likely written by Jesus’s brother James); In James 1:27:

"Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this:  to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world."

James probably intended his reference to distressed orphans and widows to actually refer to all individuals who were in distress.

Rather than continuing and further developing religion, as conceived by Jesus, Christianity has de-emphasized proper behavior relative to others (those in need, in particular). Christianity now favors “correct belief” (e.g., that “Christ died for our sins”) and promotes participation in efficacious rituals (such as Eucharist).  Orthodoxy (correct thinking) rather than Orthopraxy (correct practice).

I say that crucifixion “worked,” then, because the crucifixion of Jesus not only killed Jesus, but the “movement” that he had begun!!  A movement that was not revived by the more recent “Jesus Movement”!

In saying (in my subtitle) that Crucifixion “is unnecessary now,” I am not, of course, referring to literal crucifixion, which went “out of fashion” long ago.  What has now replaced crucifixion is media silence.

Unlike our hunter-gatherer ancestors, little of our information comes from direct observation; rather, most of our information comes from the media:  From television, radio, newspapers, magazines, the Internet, and even books (for some!).  Despite the fact that some factual information of extreme importance is presented on the Internet, the mass media, for whatever reasons, largely ignore that information.

An excellent example of what I’m referring to is an academic article that was published in January of this year, that warned “clearly and unequivocally that planet Earth is facing a climate emergency.”  And went on to say that “To secure a sustainable future, we must change how we live, in ways that improve the vital signs summarized by our graphs.”

The “climate emergency” to which the article is referring is the global warming, which is now occurring — and accelerating!

Let me ask you these questions:

  1. Have you ever heard any of our “leaders,” whether in government, the business world, or even academia, say or be quoted as saying, in the mass media, anything about this since the publication of that article?

  2. Are you aware of any actions taken “to secure a sustainable future”?

  3. As you listen to people speak on television, do you ever hear them refer to global warming? Several years ago I sent an email to the lead meteorologist at one of the local television stations here in Milwaukee about this; he informed me that their management forbade them to make mention of global warming!

  4. When you happen to overhear the conversations of others, does the term “global warming” ever occur in them?

Because of “media silence” on global warming, and even media denial that it’s occurring (!), the general public in our society is not only ill-informed, but misinformed, about global warming!  And although this may not be true of our “leaders,” they have been doing “diddly squat”!

Thus, today it’s unnecessary to crucify the “prophets” who have been studying global warming, and publishing their findings in scholarly journals. It is enough that our media ignore them!  Is it any wonder, then, that one finds, on the internet, an article, posted in 2018, with this title:   “Human Extinction by 2026?

I’m not surprised!
